Mason For 50 Yean Local Masons will pay spe cial tribute to seven members of the Dunn’s Rock Masonic lodge on Thursday, July 26th, at 8:30 o’clock in the lodge room, following the stated com munication which will be held from 8:00 to 8:20 p.m. This announcement comes from Jerry Hart Jerome, the Worshipful Master. Dr. Thomas Johnson Summey was raised to the sublime de gree of Mat ter Mason in Dunn’s Rock Lodge on February 5, 1912, He will be the first mem ber of the local lodge to receive the Diamond Jubilee award. He is also a life member of his lodge. Dr. Summey practiced medi cine in Transylvania County from 1915 to 1928. In 1928 he moved to Moorestown, New Jersey, to practice medicine in Philadelphia. During the intervening years, Dr. Summey was Head of the Surgery Department of Pen nsylvania Hospital in Philadel phia; Professor of Clinical -B#*Wy gt the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Medicine in Philadelphia; and Head of the Surgery De partment of Burlington County Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, New Jersey. In 1962 he retired to his farm, “Morrowdale,” near Charlottesville, Virginia, where he raises registered Hereford cattle. Jerry Jerome, Past Master and long time friend of Dr. Summey, will present the Dia mond Jubilee Certificate and lapel pin. Dr. Summey is the oldest liv ing Past Master of Dunn’s Rock lodge having served in that ca pacity in 1926, 1927 and 1928. Mr. Jerome, who will present the awards, is the 2nd oldest living Past Master, having served during the year 1934. The local lodge has seven 50 year members and they have been elected life members of their lodge and are as follows: Julian Austin Glazener, Ra leigh; James William Glazener, Horse Shoe; Louie Carlisle Loftis, Baltimore, Md.; Benja min Franklin Merrill, Little River; William Crawford Bal lard, Easley, S. C.: and Rev. Benjamin Walter Thomason, Brevard. Following receiving his Dia mond Jubilee Award, Dr. Sum mey will present two Veteran’s Emblems and certificates to two members as follows: Raymond Frankljn Bennett, who received the Master Ma sons degree in Aero Ma sonic logde No. 648, Dayton, Ohio, on February 14, 1923, and affiliated with Dunn’s Rock lodge on May 23rd, 1941. He is a retired executive of Olin Cor poration" and a former mayor of Brevard. Jason Huggins, also recipient of the 50-year award, received the Master Masons degree in the local Masonic lodge on Feb ruary 18, 1921. Mr. Huggins was a government employee with the Brevard Post office until his retirement several years ago. Edwin. Lewis Happ is a Past Master of the local lodge hav ing served during the year 1948. and he is the 10th oldest living past master. Mr. Happ, a former employee of Olin Corporation, was the Electrical Supervisor. Mr. Happ is retired and now resides at 302 Fairway Road, Graniteville, South Carolina. He will present the following members 25-year continuous membf rship cer tificates and lapel pins: Elmer Robert Baker received the Master Masons degree on March 4, 1948. He is employed at Olin Corporation. Riley Ephraim Beddingfield received the Master Masons in Dunn’s Rock Lodge on May 13, 1948. He is employed at Gen eral Electric, Hendersonville. Jack Dempsey Cabe received the Master Masons degree on June 14, 1948, in Jeff L. Nelson Lodge No. 605, Tryon, and af filiated with the local Masonic lodge July 26, 1951. He is a Captain with the State High way Patrol and resides at Fay etteville. Grover Herbert Woodard was Raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Dunn’s Rock lodge on July 8, 1948. He is an employee with Olin Corpora tion. The four recipients of the 25-year certificates received the degrees while Mr. Happ was Worshipful Master with the ex ception of Mr. Cabe, who affili ated with the local lodge. Henry R. Henderson. Past .Master and secretary, states tha^ the grand lodge of North Carolina, permits each subordi nate lodge to elect three Ma sons “Honorary Members” of a lodge in a calendar year, and they cannot be elected an “Honorary Member" of their own lodge. Masons Confer Third Degree Thursday Night The Master Masons degree will be conferred at an emerg ent communication Thursday, July 19th at 7:30 p. m. in Dunn’s Rock Masonic temple on East Mam street. This announcement comes from Jerry H. Jerome, the wor sl.ipfuJ master. The decree will be conferred bv M. M. Feaster, Jr. the senior warden and he will be assisted by Julius L. Nicholson, junior deacon acting as senior deacon. The lecture will be given by Theodore E. Reid, past District Deputy Grand Master of the 60th Masonic District. The lec ture will be illustrated by show ing picture frames. The charge will be delivered by Randal Waldrop. The Master urges the mem bers to attend and a cordial in vitation is extended to all visit Masons. and the certificates and pocket cards will be presented by Charles B. Peevy, Past Master: MW Bro. Nathaniel C. Dean Norwood, Grand Master of Ma sonic in North Carolina and holds his membership in Pee Dee Lodge No. 150, Norwood.
